On Saturday, April 22 the Chequamegon Area Mountain Bike Association (CAMBA) will host a day of chainsaw safety training that will lead to A Apprentice Sawyer certification with the U.S. Forest Service.
The training will take place at the Drummond Civic Center in Drummond beginning at 8:00 a.m. The morning session will be spent indoors with a safety presentation. Following lunch, the class will move outdoors for hands-on saw use.
This class is intended for CAMBA volunteers who work on any of the CAMBA trails. Certification is required of any volunteer working on the National Forest and highly recommended for all volunteers working on other CAMBA trails. Space is limited and CAMBA volunteers will receive first priority. Other trail organizations may be accommodated if space permits.
The class is appropriate for individuals who have never received chainsaw safety certification or for volunteers who have participated in this or a similar class three years ago or longer for re-certification (2014 or earlier). An annual refresher is no longer required by the Forest Service. Therefore, if you have been certified within the past three years (2015 or later) you do not need to attend.
There is no cost for the class. To receive full certification, participants must also receive basic first aid training. Options for receiving this training will be discussed during the class.
All participants should wear long pants, long sleeve shirt, work or hiking boots with an 8-inch ankle, and work gloves. If you have the following personal protective equipment, please bring it to the class: chaps, eye protection, and hearing protection. If you do not own this equipment, some will be available. You may also bring your own personal chainsaw, but an assortment of saws will also be available. You should also bring a lunch.
If you have questions, or to register for the class, contact CAMBA at camba@cheqnet.net or 715/798-3599.
